Guide to Grocery Shopping During the RMO

As supermarkets, public markets, sundry and convenience shops continue to remain open during the Restricted Movement Order (RMO), we are still allowed to shop for groceries and essential items outside. However, it is important to ensure that we shop safely. MR.DIY would like to share a guide to help Malaysians to grocery shop while keeping safe from the COVID-19 virus.

The first thing to do is to ensure that only one person from each household goes out for shopping. Before going out, make sure you take the time to come up with a list of items that your household needs so that nothing is missed out and so that there will be enough food stocked up for a week or so. Wear a mask and bring a hand sanitizer along with you to be safe.

Practice social distancing when you are shopping at the store and when it is time to que up, make sure that you are standing at least 1 meter away from the person in front of you. Some stores even have marks placed on the floor as a guide for where to stand.

When paying for your items, practice contactless payment options by avoiding the use of cash or cards and by taking advantage of your favourite e-wallet apps. This is a great way for both you and the cashier to feel safe.

According to a Facebook Post  by the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia that was shared from the Public Health Malaysia page, grocery shoppers are required to follow this guide after going out to buy essentials during the Restricted Movement Order (RMO). It is important to follow this guide to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus and keep your family safe.

Steps to Take After Returning from Shopping:

1. Remove your mask, place it into a separate bag and throw it into the garbage bin
2. Avoid any physical contact with family members
3. Go to the bathroom, remove your clothes and soak it in soap
4. Bathe with soap. Wash your face, hands and entire body
5. You’re free to meet your family now
