MR.DIY brought some smiles to the faces of residents in Pusat Pemulihan Orang Kurang Upaya (known as Bengkel Seri Perkasa Johol), a welfare home for slow learner and disable elderly in Johol, Negeri Sembilan.
The old home, which has a sentimental value, was passed down by the Undang Luak Johol for a charity cause and to cater for those who’s in need. Its dilapidated conditions, especially in the kitchen and toilet area, has now been given a “fresh look” by MR.DIY.
The team of 24 MR.DIY Cares volunteers from various departments visited the home on 17 December 2022, helping with improvement work. For this initiative, three main groups have been divided and helped in repair, repaint and refurbished.
The exterior wall of the toilets was given a fresh coat of grey paint, brightening up the exterior of the building, cleaning the toilets and changed the toilet seat cover by the first team, whilst the second team repaired and fixing broken faucet, cement work under the kitchen sink, repainted stove rack, installed kitchen railed rack on the wall and assembled new furniture shelf made by MR.DIY and stand fan in the kitchen area.
The third team was assigned to manage the surrounding areas and help tidy up by replacing the window netting and panes, minor roof work and some other small repairs. The improvement activities were completed by 1 pm and spent some quality time with the residents.
Repairing and improving a house is not all that simple regardless of how big or small a house might be. For this program, MR.DIY was sponsored and all the appliances used were purchased from. the MR.DIY stores.
MR.DIY Home Improvement Project is the latest initiative of MR.DIY’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), to help the B40 communities to repair and improve their own houses and make it as good as new, with a contribution value of not more than RM5,000.00 for each house.
