MR.DIY CSR: Walk with Style - Myanmar Refugee Community Learning Center (MRCLC)

MR DIY alongside Soroptimist International Damansara (SID) continues its drive on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative for the “Upcycle: Walk with Style” program. An initiative to upcycle MR.DIY's unused white school shoes for arts and crafts projects with underprivileged children.

A shoe in this modern era has been viewed as a fashion accessory, however, the sole purpose of a shoe is to give comfort, protection, and for hygiene purposes. Many people took owning a shoe for granted yet there are underprivileged children who dreamt of owning a shoe. MR DIY through this initiative hopes in making those dreams into a reality.

On 2nd December 2022 at the Myanmar Refugee Community Learning Center (MRCLC), a total of 97 pairs of MR.DIY white school shoes were donated to the children and they had the experience of decorating the shoes and showcasing their creativity. MR.DIY supplied all the needed drawing and painting tools such as markers, paint, drawing brushes, accessories, and glitter.

The Walk with Style project saw tremendous support from 8 MR.DIY Cares volunteers, fellow teachers from the learning center, and representatives from SID as thunderous applause from the children can be heard. The program was rewarding said fellow volunteers who join in the fun of painting the shoe as they saw the joy and smile projected on each of the children.

As part of MR.DIY values sustaining the environment and empowering the children, this program seeks to manifest the children’s creative side in the hope of serving as an inspiration to others to embark on similar initiatives.
