Students Get a ‘Back to School’ Boost from MR.DIY

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 SEPTEMBER 2022 – It’s going to be great fun for some school children returning to school this month.

Malaysia’s favourite home improvement retailer MR D.I.Y. Group [M] Berhad (MR.DIY) has announced a “Back To School” initiative that will see students from three schools in Kuala Lumpur receive learning essentials when they return to school after the Term 2 holidays.

More than 250 selected students from standards 1 - 6 received pencils, colour pencils, socks, nasal test kits, children face masks and hand sanitisers.  The students are recipients of ‘Rancangan Makanan Tambahan’ (RMT), a Ministry of Education programme designed to provide children from disadvantaged and low-income families with additional food aid to ensure their daily nutritional needs are met.

In addition to the individual contributions, MR.DIY also presented each school with a carton of school shoes to be distributed to students in need.

Commenting on the initiative, MR D.I.Y. Group Head of Marketing, Alex Goh said, “Back to school is often a joyous time for schoolchildren, but it’s one of the times that puts the biggest pressure on family budgets.  And this doesn’t just happen at the start of the school year, but throughout the year, as children outgrow shoes and school uniforms, and also run out of stationery.  Recognising the need to give families year-round support, MR.DIY has launched this ‘Back to School’ initiative in the hope of alleviating the burden of families.”

In a separate programme, MR.DIY continued its efforts to distribute COVID-19 test kits, dispersing 2,000 units of nasal test kits to Sekolah Kebangsaan Saujana Impian, Kajang, Selangor. The contribution is part of the retailer’s ‘Sentiasa Berwaspada Tanggungjawab Bersama’ initiative, to ensure the students stay safe and keep learning.

Goh thanked the administrators and teachers at participating schools for ensuring the effective distribution of the ‘Back to School’ giveaways and test kits.

The ‘Back to School’ initiative is one of several that MR.DIY has launched in recent years to help students and their families stay focused on learning. Also, in 2022, it initiated the ‘Healthy Meals by MR.DIY’ programme, distributing milk, bread, and mineral water to primary schools in Selangor. The programme, supported by Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Selangor (JPNS), has benefitted 737 students and is expected to benefit more than 5,000 students in 25 primary schools in the state.
